An experiential 2-hour workshop to explore meditation from the ground-up, and bottom-up

Ground-up approaches mean we will explore the basics; though the content will be anything but basic.

  • I incorporate the latest brain/body scientific research, as well as my own research from over a decade of personal meditation practice and in facilitating mindfulness groups.
  • Debunk myths about meditation including the common misconceptions around its purpose to ‘stop our thoughts’, and to ‘make us calm’, and why understanding the subtle nuances makes all the difference.

Bottom-up approaches to healing means we will start with the wisdom of the body, rather than top-down approaches that start with our thoughts (e.g., CBT).

  • We will take a critical trauma-informed lens, whether that be for developing your own practice, or in sharing meditation with others.
  • Explore how we can make space for discomfort, while honouring the inevitable boredom, or even past trauma that makes the body feel ‘unsafe’ or ‘stuck’.
  • Discover the ‘I’ in co-regulation, to help find safety in our body and cue safety in others.

ABOUT:

Daphne is a clinical counsellor and community educator working in Richmond BC for the past five years. She is passionate about her dual role in the Complex Care Program, as psychotherapist, while leading and developing workshops on topics of neurodiversity needs in schools, and mindfulness and mental health for counsellors and social service workers. With over a decade of personal meditation practice, including Vipassana 10-day silent retreats, she has learned the value of practicing what you preach. The opportunity to complete her 200-hour Yoga Teacher training with Karma Teachers, only deepened her appreciation for the practice and widened her skill-set in somatic based healings. She is trained in EMDR, MBSR, and will complete her IFS training this spring. Daphne is a strong advocate for play outside of the office, and can be found snowboarding, singing in her community choir, backpacking when possible, and making the most of whatever the season has to offer. https://www.daphnemeyer.com/
