Joni Cooke
Joni Cooke I offer a traditional hatha flow which is deep and strong and gentle, and also a specific nervous system yoga class especially to help neurodivergent folx.
I began my yogic studies in India in 1995 while studying Katak dance as part of a fine arts program at university. It was very traditional yoga taught one-on-one by a serene old Hatha Yoga Master. Seeds were planted. Coming face to face with my "monkey mind" I humbly became a student of the "Svadhyaya" (knowledge of Self) branches of Vedic practices which ask the student to study their "fluctuations of mind". I eventually moved to a Monastery to deepen into meditation with a Japanese Zen master. There was no asana practice at the monastery but we were taught to embody the Buddhist principles of self regulation using all six senses. This is the foundation of my nervous system specialization.
My commitment to understand the connection between body and mind led me to work as a Registered Shiatsu Massage Therapist. Over 35 years this vocation reminds me daily about the importance of yoga, deep breathing, good alignment and strength. Health and self-awareness has been my life-long passion. I'm also a student and teacher of Contact Improvisation dance, so my hatha classes are shot-through with all the various insights of this embodiment practice. My first yoga teacher used to say: "Kindness, humour and wisdom, more important than words. Teach by BEING a Yogi."
In the summer months I shape-shift into a gardening fiend on a small plot of land on Salt Spring Island. Green Room yoga students have been known to enjoy the occasional pound of salad mix if there’s extra. Discover more about me at https://www.dancingcraneshiatsu.com/

Odette Slater
Odette Slater I am an experienced yoga teacher, pilates teacher, doula and prenatal yoga teacher. I began studying and teaching yoga in the mid 1980’s in London, England while completing my dance degree. I started teaching because one of my first teachers in London, Danny Paradise encouraged me to. This was long before yoga teacher certification was even a thing. I continue to study with amazing acharyas and weave many ancient and contemporary teachings together in all my classes. I have been a student of the Vedas for over twenty years and enjoy weaving yoga philosophy and Sanskrit mantras into my asana classes. So, if you are in class with me, don’t be surprised if I start telling stories from these ancient texts!
I also work with women who are struggling with mental health and addiction (these woman are some of my greatest teachers), regularly facilitate Sounds Baths with my partner Ron and I am currently learning to lead Kirtan. Learn more about me at https://odetteslater.com

Rachel Rocco
Rachel Rocco
It was in my late fifties, back in 2016 when my yoga teacher introduced me to the ancient practice of Qigong, and from that moment, I was hooked.
I began a daily Qigong routine, and it didn't take long to experience its remarkable benefits. The practice infused me with an overwhelming calm while nurturing my confidence and self-esteem.
As I delved deeper into this energetic medicine's philosophy, history, and extraordinary healing powers, I pursued my passion for Qigong by studying with Empty Mountain Institute and completing the Medical Qigong Therapist program. Qigong’s holistic worldview seamlessly intertwined with my identity as a lesbian feminist, enhancing my connection to the natural world and the universal forces.
Through the practice of Qigong, I experienced a revitalization of my long-abandoned spiritual life, embracing a sense of wonder and reverence once again. This exploration led me to befriend and truly comprehend my emotional body, recognizing it as an integral part of my inner universe's vast and intricate landscape. Discovering my energetic anatomy felt like a homecoming—a reunion with my true self.
Now retired from my arts administrator and fundraiser career, I reside alongside my long-time partner in East Vancouver, BC. I am working towards meeting the requirements for my Master of Medical Qigong certification, driven by a fascination and curiosity to deepen my knowledge and understanding of this profound practice.
My journey with Qigong has not only transformed my life but has also allowed me to align my values and beliefs with a practice that encompasses healing, interconnectedness, and a deep reverence for the natural world. Through classes, energy treatments, and personalized programs, I actively guide individuals in cultivating their innate healing abilities, empowering them to awaken their own inner healers.
